JAG Rod Locker Cord

The JAG Rod Locker Cord (elastic shock cord) is used to physically lock your fishing rod into the rear rest, preventing the rod from being violently pulled into the water during savage bites or when snag fishing. A simple press of the quick-release button flips the cord loose, allowing you to lift the rod with one hand.

How to Install and Set Up the Cord

  1. Thread the Cord: Slide one end of the supplied elastic shock cord through the small metal retaining pin/hole on the JAG Rod Locker.
  2. Size the Loop: Place your fishing rod into the rest. Pull the elastic cord over the rod blank or handle, and bring it down under the spring-loaded quick-release trigger mechanism.
  3. Anchor the Second Side: Bring the remaining tag end of the cord around to the opposite retaining pin and thread it through to set your desired tension.
  4. Secure with a Cable Tie: Tighten a cable tie around both tag ends right against the retaining pin to stop the elastic from slipping.
  5. Finish the Ends: Trim any excess cable tie and elastic, then carefully melt (blob) the cut ends of the cord with a lighter to prevent fraying.
  6. Protect Soft Handles: If your rod features soft cork or Duplon handles, position the rod locker just in front of the butt grip or clip it around the reel seat to avoid leaving deep indents.
